Endorsements for Atomic Object

“It has been a pleasure working with Atomic Object both professionally and personally. We considered a number of Rails development companies, including some big names in the industry, but the superior quality of AO's work was apparent from the beginning. We continue to be impressed by the consistent attention to detail AO has demonstrated, from the initial proposal through the discovery and development stages. Their top-notch developers, testers and designers have consistently maintained high professional standards as well as thorough and frank communication. The tight feedback loop built into their agile development methodology has allowed us to quickly iterate over feature requirements and cut down on potential rework. Their responsiveness could not have been better. As other reviewers have pointed out, AO does not just 'do as ordered'. They actively engage in finding the best solution and we have learned to trust their expertise. They truly own the project. Most of our work with AO has been done remotely, but we have not felt this to detract from the quality of interaction and progress in any way. We highly recommend Atomic Object to anyone.”

“We've worked with 5 Rails developers from AtomicObject, and all have been excellent. What we appreciate about AtomicObject are the following: * Clear and direct communication. * Not being afraid to challenge our thinking. Whether it be strategic direction, technology selection, or even website copy/text. * Pragamtic application of pair programming and test-driven development. * Pragmatic approaches to problem solving, and always willing to suggest alternatives. They do not just 'do as ordered'. * Take ownership of entire project lifecycle. * Attention to detail. * Emphasis on QA and pragmatic approach to load testing. * Excellent instincts. * Developer skill. While most developers have specific strengths, we appreciate how well-rounded the AO developers are. But, we have cetainly benefitted from specific skills, such as math/statistics and excellent User Experience development. You may not see much depth in the Realius example at face value, but there are significant background processes at work to aggregate millions of predictions and process hundreds of thousands of property listings daily. In addition, the propety prediction process is an embeddable read-write widget that enables real estate professional to accept predictions on their own domains with simple integration. It's been a fun journey.”

Originally developed with a different technical team, we decided to consolidate Catalog Choice development with AtomicObject in late 2008. The transition and handoff was professionally handled on both sides. It's never easy to pick up and own a codebase you've not developed, but AO gave very pragmatic advice about how develop tests to ensure changes we make have minimal regressions going forward. Catalog Choice receives over 100k uniques and 1M pageviews/mth. In addition, we process thousands of user requests daily. We act as an agent between our users and thousands of merchants. User requests are forwarded via email, form stuffing, and REST APIs. Whatever it takes to deliver the request. We have a significant administration area to manage the entire lifecycle of communication methods. Atomic Object made this all possible at a fraction of the cost, and a fraction of the staff of other, well-funded competitors. ”

“Atomic Object and I partnered on uladoo.com as a spec dev project. I had what I felt was a good idea, but I didn't have time to develop it myself so I pitched it to Carl Erickson to see what he thought. He also liked the idea, so we quickly agreed on how we would move forward and got started. We launched the site within 90 days and I was very pleased with the product Atomic created. Here are some notes from that experience: - Working as partners with AO was an unusually pleasant experience. Our energies fed off each other and it created enthusiasm for the project. - AO was very good at working with me remotely. We only met in person once during the project, but we collaborated very effectively. - AO assigned a project manager to interact with me, and he became an irreplaceable asset to me. He quickly got the vision and had a great sense of ownership. - The end product was awesome. I'm also a rails developer and did a small part of the work on uladoo.com, and my perusal through the code confirmed what I already thought about AO - they really know what they are doing. - The PM and I disagreed about a certain feature for a while. While we didn't agree, I felt this was okay because he had a very principled explanation for his viewpoint. Being able to disagree, compromise, and move forward for the best result is very mature behavior. Ultimately, uladoo.com was not a hugely successful spec dev project. We learned a lot, and we earned a few followers, but so far it hasn't delivered on our initial expectations. It's common in these situations for partners to have a falling out when things don't go well, but AO and I have not. We still really like each other and would do business together again. I think the uladoo project is a great example of two of AO's greatest features: extreme talent and maturity. They've got both, and it makes a big difference.”

“Talk about steely-eyed ninjas. The gang at Atomic Object has a reputation for excellence and backs it up with their work. I hired AO because 4 out of 5 developers recommended them as the shop that could get it done right and fast. They delivered. Started laying code in September and took a product to market in March. Not bad for a winter's work, huh? Bottom line. If you have an important piece of software to develop and want to do it right the first time, look no further than Atomic Object”

“My partner and I came to Atomic Object after both working with a few different firms in our city on various different web projects. None of those firms had embraced rails yet, making AO not only a new firm for us, but a new approach to development. I've heard lots of pitches from shops about their quality of code, execution, etc, etc. And I heard the same from AO, but AO on the other-hand completely delivered. We were super impressed with their test driven development process and how strictly they adhered to it. And of course what it did for our project. From private launch to public launch I really never had that nagging feeling of 'is this thing going to hiccup in the middle of everything?!' I can honestly say I didn't - which is pretty awesome. Beyond that, their engagement with our project and wanting to fully understand our business model, etc, made things so much more fluid. Kind of cliche, but they really did feel like part of our team - not just our development shop off in the distance, etc. I love the culture at their company - everything feels succinct with them. Carl runs a great shop @ Atomic Object.”

“We had high level requirements, unproven time base management algorithms, no time to lose, and a tight budget. The mission: develop a new supply chain planning and monitoring system from scratch for the worst of all industrial environments: maintenance and repair where every job is unique and can change on the fly. Atomic coupled their extreme programming development process with Rails development for a huge win. We went live at our fist customer within 5 months. They experienced major gains in business volume and profit by using the software. The speed and correctness at which we moved on this project is unparalleled in my experience with other software developers. ”
